IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander Behind War’s Deadliest Attack on Israeli Troops
The IDF and Shin Bet announced on Sunday that a senior Hamas commander responsible for the deadliest assault on Israeli forces during the current war in Gaza was killed in a targeted drone strike over the weekend. The commander, Khalil Abed al-Nasser Mohammad Hatib, led a Hamas cell in the terror group’s Maghazi Battalion. He was behind a devastating RPG attack on January 22, 2024, that claimed the lives of 21 Israeli soldiers—the highest single-day death toll for Israeli forces in the ongoing conflict. According to the IDF, Hatib’s cell fired rocket-propelled grenades at two buildings near the Israeli border that had been fortified and prepared for demolition, as well as at a tank providing cover for the troops. The ambush resulted in catastrophic losses for the Israeli unit. Troops from the IDF’s 414th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit identified Hatib on Friday. Following confirmation, a drone strike was called in, successfully eliminating the operative. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
Ukraine Targets Russian Infrastructure as Bridge Collapses and Bomber Bases Burn [VIDEOS]
Two bridges in Russian regions bordering Ukraine collapsed on Sunday following explosions that Russian officials attribute to Ukrainian sabotage. The attacks, which killed at least seven people and injured 69 others, occurred in the Bryansk region, a strategic area near the Ukrainian border. Concurrently, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted Russian airfields, including one housing strategic bombers. According to Reuters, a road bridge in the Bryansk region collapsed onto railway tracks due to an explosion. Russian authorities reported that the incident killed seven people and injured dozens. Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the defense committee of Russia’s lower house, told the SHOT Telegram channel that the attack was “definitely the work of the Ukrainian special services,” aimed at derailing diplomatic efforts. Ukraine has not officially commented on the incident, though it has claimed responsibility for similar attacks in the past. A second bridge collapse was reported in another Russian region bordering Ukraine, though specific details on its location and impact remain scarce. Russian politicians have pointed to Ukraine as the culprit, framing the incidents as deliberate sabotage. Parallel to the bridge incidents, Ukrainian forces conducted drone strikes on Russian airfields, including the Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region and the Belaya airfield, destroying strategic bombers. Recent history provides context for such claims. On March 20, Ukrainian forces struck the Engels-2 airbase in the Saratov region, a key facility housing Russia’s Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers. The attack, verified by multiple outlets including Reuters and The New York Times, caused secondary detonations of ammunition and damaged warehouses believed to store missiles like the Kh-101. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the strike, noting it disrupted Russia’s ability to launch attacks on Ukraine. Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies showed extensive damage to ammunition bunkers, though no major aircraft damage was confirmed. Russian authorities have downplayed the extent of damage from past attacks, with the Defense Ministry claiming to have intercepted 54 Ukrainian drones in the Saratov region during the March 20 strike. However, the declaration of a state of emergency in Saratov after a January 8 attack on a fuel depot serving Engels-2 underscores the significant logistical challenges posed by Ukraine’s deep-strike operations. Hamas Lies Exposed: Hamas Claims Dozens Killed At Aid Distribution, But Footage Shows No Gunfire or Injuries
Hamas claimed on Sunday that Israeli forces killed at least 31 Palestinians and wounded 175 others near a U.S.-backed aid distribution site in Rafah, Gaza Strip, alleging the shootings occurred as civilians sought humanitarian aid. However, security footage released by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which operates the site, directly contradicts these claims, showing no gunfire or injuries at the time and location specified by Hamas. The incident reportedly took place approximately one kilometer from the GHF distribution hub in Rafah’s Tel al-Sultan neighborhood, an area controlled by Israeli forces. Hamas-run Gaza health authorities and the enclave’s Government Media Office claimed that Israeli troops opened fire on crowds moving toward the aid site. The IDF denied firing on civilians, stating that troops stationed near the site used warning shots in the air to manage crowd control and ensure security. The IDF emphasized that no shots were directed at Palestinians. The GHF, supported by Israel and the United States to bypass Hamas’s diversion of aid, released CCTV footage from the exact time of the alleged incident, showing calm conditions with no visible gunfire or casualties. Israeli officials have long accused Hamas of exploiting humanitarian aid for propaganda and military purposes, including siphoning off supplies meant for civilians. The IDF and GHF say that the new aid distribution system, guarded by U.S. contractors, was established to prevent such misuse. The released footage has been cited as evidence of Hamas spreading misinformation to discredit Israel and the aid initiative. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking on Sunday, reiterated that the GHF system aims to ensure aid reaches Gaza’s civilians while preventing Hamas from using it as a “tool of war.” He acknowledged a brief loss of control at the Rafah site but said that order was quickly restored. Huckabee Blasts France: “Carve Out the Riviera If You Want a Palestinian State” [VIDEO]
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee slammed France’s recent efforts to promote unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, calling the move “revolting” and ill-timed amid Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas. In an interview with Fox News, Huckabee said the push for Palestinian statehood is out of touch with the current Israeli sentiment following the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre that triggered the war in Gaza. “It’s incredibly inappropriate in the midst of a war that Israel is dealing with to go out and present something that I think increasingly Israelis are steadfast against,” Huckabee said. He added that France should focus on its own territory rather than pressuring Israel: “If France is really so determined to see a Palestinian state, I have a suggestion for them – carve out a piece of the French Riviera and create a Palestinian state. They are welcome to do that, but they are not welcome to impose that kind of pressure on a sovereign nation.” Huckabee also confirmed that the United States will not participate in a France- and Saudi Arabia-led conference scheduled to take place later this month in New York, which is aimed at advancing recognition of a Palestinian state. Trump Tells US Steelworkers He’s Going To Double Tariffs On Foreign Steel To 50%
President Donald Trump on Friday told Pennsylvania steelworkers he’s doubling the tariff on steel imports to 50% to protect their industry, a dramatic increase that could further push up prices for a metal used to make housing, autos and other goods. In a post later on his Truth Social platform, he added that aluminum tariffs would also be doubled to 50%. He said both tariff hikes would go into effect Wednesday. Trump spoke at U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works–Irvin Plant in suburban Pittsburgh, where he also discussed a details-to-come deal under which Japan’s Nippon Steel will invest in the iconic American steelmaker. Trump told reporters after he arrived back in Washington that he still has to approve the deal. “I have to approve the final deal with Nippon and we haven’t seen that final deal yet, but they’ve made a very big commitment and it’s a very big investment,” he said. Though Trump initially vowed to block the Japanese steelmaker’s bid to buy Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel, he reversed course and announced an agreement last week for “partial ownership” by Nippon. It’s unclear, though, if the deal his administration helped broker has been finalized or how ownership would be structured. Nippon Steel has never said it is backing off its bid to outright buy and control U.S. Steel as a wholly owned subsidiary, even as it increased the amount of money it promised to invest in U.S. Steel plants and gave guarantees that it wouldn’t lay off workers or close plants as it sought federal approval of the acquisition. “We’re here today to celebrate a blockbuster agreement that will ensure this storied American company stays an American company,” Trump said as he opened an event at one of U.S. Steel’s warehouses. “You’re going to stay an American company, you know that, right?” As for the tariffs, Trump said doubling the levies on imported steel “will even further secure the steel industry in the U.S.” But such a dramatic increase could push prices even higher. Steel prices have climbed 16% since Trump became president in mid-January, according to the government’s Producer Price Index. As of March 2025, steel cost $984 a metric ton in the United States, significantly more than the price in Europe ($690) or China ($392), according to the U.S. Commerce Department. The United States produced about three times as much steel as it imported last year, with Canada, Brazil, Mexico and South Korea being the largest sources of steel imports. Analysts have credited tariffs going back to Trump’s first term with helping strengthen the domestic steel industry, something that Nippon Steel wanted to capitalize on in its offer to buy U.S. Steel. The United Steelworkers union remained skeptical. Its president, David McCall, said in a statement that the union is most concerned “with the impact that this merger of U.S. Steel into a foreign competitor will have on national security, our members and the communities where we live and work.” Trump stressed the deal would maintain American control of the storied company, which is seen as both a political symbol and an important matter for the country’s supply chain, industries like auto manufacturing and national security. Trump, who has been eager to strike deals and announce new investments in the U.S. since retaking the White House, is also trying […]
