CLEVELAND HEIGHTS: Residents Demand Mayor Resign After Antisemitism Allegations Against His Wife
Cleveland Heights Mayor Khalil Seren is facing mounting public outrage after explosive allegations of antisemitism surfaced against his wife, Natalie McDaniel. Last week, the law firm Sobel, Wade & Mapley, LLC filed a formal complaint with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission alleging that McDaniel used antisemitic slurs in private text messages referring to city officials, including members of the Jewish community. The complaint, which includes messages reportedly sent to Mayor Seren and a former aide, accuses McDaniel of referring to Jewish Planning Commission Chair Jessica Cohen as a “broodmare” — a term allegedly used to disparage Orthodox Jewish families for having large numbers of children. Other reported messages include derogatory remarks about Jewish residents and city officials, including calling a councilmember “that Jewish [dog].” McDaniel also reportedly implied that Cohen was serving on the commission solely to benefit the Orthodox community. Scores of Cleveland Heights residents gathered this week outside City Hall hours before the council meeting to demand accountability. Protesters, including children, held signs calling for Mayor Seren’s resignation, expressing frustration over his silence and inaction in the face of bigotry coming from within his own household. During the city council meeting, residents filled the chamber and voiced outrage during public comment. While councilmembers unanimously passed a resolution condemning antisemitism as an emergency measure, they also took pointed aim at the mayor’s silence. “As a city leader, your judgment has failed you,” Councilwoman Gail Larson said. Vice President of Council Davida Russell added, “We need to close the door on all this hatred.” Council President Tony Cuda said: “I’m disappointed. I’m repulsed. And most of all, I’m sorry to the Jewish community that has to endure this hate speech.” Mayor Seren, who has not publicly addressed the complaint, said during the meeting, “I’ve prepared a statement and I’ll be releasing that tomorrow. Tonight, I’m here to listen.” On Wednesday night, Seren released a long video – but made no mention of resigning. The video can be watched below. The city’s second-ever mayoral election is set for November. While two candidates have already filed to run, it remains unclear whether Seren will seek re-election. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
As Anti-Semitism Surged, Biden Officials Ignored Hundreds of Complaints
As anti-Semitic incidents spiked across the United States in the wake of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, the Biden administration’s Education Department reportedly failed to investigate nearly 200 related complaints, according to a former senior official now serving under President Donald Trump. The official, speaking to Fox News, claimed that more than 150 of the unaddressed complaints were filed after the deadly assault by Hamas, which left nearly 1,200 Israelis dead and ignited a war that has reverberated far beyond the Middle East — including on American college campuses, where pro-Palestinian protests and rising tensions have left many Jewish students feeling targeted and unsafe. Rather than addressing a dramatic increase in anti-Semitic harassment, the Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) under Biden redirected resources to cases involving issues such as preferred pronouns and challenges to age-appropriate content in school libraries, the source said. Julie Hartman, a spokeswoman for the Trump-era Education Department, accused the Biden administration of overextending the OCR’s authority. “The Biden administration placed an undue burden on OCR by stretching the scope of civil rights law beyond its statutory purview,” she said, arguing that this shift in focus undermined the agency’s ability to respond to credible reports of anti-Semitic discrimination. “The Trump OCR is cleaning that up daily,” Hartman added. “By enforcing the law as it is written, the Trump administration’s OCR is using its personnel and resources responsibly and eliminating wasteful and unfounded investigations.” The remarks come as President Trump has taken a notably aggressive stance against campus anti-Semitism, threatening to revoke billions in federal funding from universities that fail to protect Jewish students. Hundreds Of IDF Forces Raid Village Of Terrorist Who Murdered Woman In Labor
IDF forces raided the village of Burqin, near Bruchin, in the northern Shomron on Thursday morning, according to videos posted by Palestinians on social media. The video shows hundreds of soldiers entering the village in the early morning hours. The terrorist who murdered Tze’ela Gaz, H’yd, while she was on the way to the delivery room, lived in Burqin. He was eliminated on Shabbos by IDF forces. During the security forces’ activity in the village, a terrorist ran towards them holding a bag suspected of being booby-trapped. The soldiers shot and eliminated him. The forces searched the bag and found an M-16 rifle and other weapons used to carry out the attack. Investigators from the Yehuda and Shomron District Police collected the findings to locate additional accomplices. He was identified as Na’al Samara, who served a prison sentence in Israel in the past for Hamas-affiliated terror activities, was released in 2010, and was imprisoned again for a few days in 2019 for online incitement. As part of the investigation by the Shin Bet, IDF forces arrested several additional Palestinians for allegedly being involved in the attack, including the head of the terror cell. The investigation also revealed that the cell carried out three additional shooting attacks in the area in recent months, including the attack near Ariel on March 12, 2025, in which an Israeli civilian was moderately wounded. Pro-Palestinian Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting of Israeli Embassy Staffers in Washington, D.C.
Federal authorities have filed multiple charges against 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez in connection with the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers outside the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday night. The victims, identified by Israeli officials as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, were killed as they exited an event hosted at the museum. According to a criminal affidavit, Rodriguez faces two counts of first-degree murder, as well as charges of murdering foreign officials, causing death with a firearm, and discharging a weapon during a crime of violence. The affidavit also details Rodriguez’s alleged motivations. During an interview with Metropolitan Police Department detectives—after waiving his Miranda rights—Rodriguez reportedly expressed admiration for an individual who set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., earlier this year in protest of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Rodriguez allegedly described the man’s actions as “courageous” and referred to him as a “martyr.” Investigators say Rodriguez purchased a ticket to Wednesday’s museum event approximately three hours before it began. Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter confirmed the victims were a young couple who were planning to become engaged. “The young man purchased a ring this week,” Leiter said. “He was planning to propose to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem.” The Embassy of Israel to the United States released a statement on its official social media account, describing the shooting as a terrorist attack. “A terrorist shot and killed them as they exited an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in DC,” the statement read. Federal and local authorities continue to investigate the incident. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
Trump Courts Crypto Moguls at Golf Club Dinner While Pushing Industry-Friendly Policies
It seems like a triumph for a cryptocurrency industry that has long sought mainstream acceptance: Top investors in one of President Donald Trump ’s crypto projects invited to dine with him at his luxury golf club in Northern Virginia on the heels of the Senate advancing key pro-crypto legislation and while bitcoin prices soar. But Thursday night’s dinner for the 220 biggest investors in the $TRUMP meme coin has raised uncomfortable questions about potentially shadowy buyers using the anonymity of the internet to buy access to the president. While Democrats charge that Trump is using the power of the presidency to boost profits for his family business, even some pro-Trump crypto enthusiasts worry that the president’s push into meme coins isn’t helping their efforts to establish the credibility, stability and legitimacy they had thought his administration would bring to their businesses. After feeling unfairly targeted by the Biden administration, the industry has quickly become a dominant political force, donating huge sums to help Trump and crypto-friendly lawmakers. But that’s also served to tether the industry — sometimes uncomfortably — to a president who is using crypto as a platform to make money for his brand in unprecedented ways. “It’s distasteful and an unnecessary distraction,” said Nic Carter, a Trump supporter and partner at the crypto investment firm Castle Island Ventures, who said the president is “hugging us to death” with his private crypto businesses. “We would much rather that he passes common-sense legislation and leave it at that.” Concerns about Trump’s crypto ventures predate Inauguration Day At the swanky Crypto Ball held down the street from the White House three days before he took office on Jan. 20, Trump announced the creation of the meme coin $TRUMP as a way for his supporters to “have fun.” Meme coins are the crypto sector’s black sheep. They are often created as a joke, with no real utility and prone to extremely wild price swings that tend to enrich a small group of insiders at the expense of less sophisticated investors. The president’s meme coin is different, however, and has a clear utility: access to Trump. The top 25 investors of $TRUMP are set to attend a private reception with the president Thursday, with the top four getting $100,000 crypto-themed and Trump-branded watches. Trump’s meme coin saw an initial spike in value, followed by a steep drop. The price saw a significant increase after the dinner contest was announced. Its creators, which include an entity controlled by the Trump Organization, have made hundreds of millions of dollars by collecting fees on trades. First lady Melania Trump has her own meme coin, and Trump’s sons, Eric and Don Jr. — who are running the Trump Organization while their father is president — announced they are partnering with an existing firm to create a crypto mining company. The Trump family also holds about a 60% stake in World Liberty Financial, a crypto project that provides yet another avenue where investors are buying in and enriching the president’s relatives. World Liberty has launched its own stablecoin, USD1. The project got a boost recently when World Liberty announced an investment fund in the United Arab Emirates would be using $2 billion worth of USD1 to purchase a stake in Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. A rapidly growing form of crypto, stablecoins have values pegged to fixed assets like the […]
Trump Raises $600M in Political Donations, Targets $1B for Midterms to Bolster Agenda
BREAKING: Trump has amassed $600 million in political donations with aims of reaching $1 billion before the midterms Between a barrage of executive orders, foreign trips and norm-shattering proclamations, Donald Trump has also been busy raking in cash. The president has amassed a war chest of at least $600 million in political donations heading into the midterm elections, according to three people familiar with the matter. It’s an unprecedented sum in modern politics, particularly for a lame-duck president who is barred by the U.S. Constitution from running again. Trump is keeping an aggressive fundraising schedule with the ultimate goal of raising $1 billion or more to back his agenda and hold the House and Senate next November, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to share internal details of the fundraising efforts.

PIPE DREAM: France, Saudi Arabia Leading Proposal To Strip Hamas Of Weapons But Keep It In Power
France and Saudi Arabia are reportedly developing a proposal to disarm Hamas, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the talks. According to those sources, Saudi officials have been in direct contact with Hamas leadership in an effort to secure the group’s demobilization and transition into a non-military political entity. While it remains unclear whether France has engaged Hamas directly—especially given the European Union’s designation of the group as a terrorist organization—both nations are said to be collaborating on a plan that would allow Hamas to retain limited political power in exchange for disarmament. The reported initiative aims to transform Hamas from an armed militant organization into a “purely political entity” that could continue playing a role in future Palestinian governance. The underlying theory, sources say, is that preserving some degree of influence could incentivize Hamas to give up its weapons voluntarily. The effort comes amid mounting tensions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. France, along with Saudi Arabia, is co-chairing an upcoming United Nations conference in New York, where momentum is building for broader international recognition of Palestinian statehood—a move Israel firmly opposes. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot added fuel to the diplomatic fire earlier this week, calling Israel’s easing of aid into Gaza “totally insufficient” and demanding “immediate and massive” humanitarian relief. Meanwhile, France, Britain, and Canada issued a joint statement Monday opposing Israel’s ongoing military presence in Gaza and its continued expansion of settlements in the West Bank, warning that further measures could follow. Hamas, in turn, welcomed the statement, condemning what it described as Israeli “siege and starvation” tactics and accusing Jerusalem of pursuing a campaign of “genocide and displacement.” Recent revelations have further complicated the picture. According to The Wall Street Journal, documents obtained by Israeli forces suggest Hamas orchestrated the October 7 massacre in part to derail normalization talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia—talks that were nearing a breakthrough at the time. Earlier this month, Macron took direct aim at Netanyahu’s Gaza policy, calling it “shameful” in light of reports that half a million people are at risk of starvation. He also floated the possibility of increased European sanctions. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
“You Are Served!”: Woman Spits on Top D.C. Prosecutor in Shocking On-Camera Outburst
A woman accused of spitting on the top federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital was arrested Thursday on a federal assault charge, court records show. Then-acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin Jr. was being interviewed on video by a Newsmax reporter on a sidewalk outside his office on May 8 when Emily Gabriella Sommer approached him and spit on his left shoulder, a deputy U.S. Marshal’s affidavit says. Video captured Sommer swearing at Martin, calling him “a disgusting man” and yelling, “My name is Emily Gabriella Sommer, and you are served,” before walking away, the affidavit says. The encounter occurred on the same day that President Donald Trump pulled Martin’s nomination to remain U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia on a more permanent basis. Former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro replaced Martin, who faced bipartisan opposition in the Senate after a turbulent stint in the nation’s largest U.S. Attorney’s office. A key Republican senator said he could not support Martin for the job due to his defense of rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol more than four years ago. Martin roiled the office with a series of unorthodox moves, such as firing and demoting subordinates who worked on politically sensitive cases. Sommer later took credit for the spitting incident in a message replying to a social media post by Martin, according to the deputy. Sommer was arrested in Washington, D.C., on a complaint charging her with assaulting, resisting or impeding a government official. Online court records don’t list an attorney for her. Pirro’s name — not Martin’s — is on the signature block for a court filing in Sommer’s case. (AP)
Religious Charter School Dream Crushed by Supreme Court Deadlock
The Supreme Court on Thursday effectively ended a publicly funded Catholic charter school in Oklahoma, dividing 4-4. The outcome keeps in place an Oklahoma court decision that invalidated a vote by a state charter school board to approve the St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School, which would have been the nation’s first religious charter school. But it leaves the issue unresolved nationally. The one-sentence notice from the court provides an unsatisfying end to one of the term’s most closely watched cases. The Catholic Church in Oklahoma had wanted taxpayers to fund the online charter school “faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ.” Opponents warned that allowing it would blur the separation between church and state, sap money from public schools and possibly upend the rules governing charter schools in almost every state. Only eight of the nine justices took part in the case. Justice Amy Coney Barrett didn’t explain her absence, but she is good friends and used to teach with Notre Dame law professor Nicole Garnett, who has been an adviser to the school. The issue could return to the high court in the future, with the prospect that all nine justices could participate. The court, following its custom, did not provide a breakdown of the votes. But during arguments last month, four conservative justices seemed likely to side with the school, while the three liberals seemed just as firmly on the other side. That left Chief Justice John Roberts appearing to hold the key vote, and suggests he went with the liberals to make the outcome 4-4. The case came to the court amid efforts, mainly in conservative-led states, to insert religion into public schools. Those include a challenged Louisiana requirement that the Ten Commandments be posted in classrooms and a mandate from Oklahoma’s state schools superintendent that the Bible be placed in public school classrooms. St. Isidore, a K-12 online school, had planned to start classes for its first 200 enrollees last fall, with part of its mission to evangelize its students in the Catholic faith. A key unresolved issue is whether the school is public or private. Charter schools are deemed public in Oklahoma and the other 45 states and the District of Columbia where they operate. North Dakota recently enacted legislation allowing for charter schools. They are free and open to all, receive state funding, abide by antidiscrimination laws and submit to oversight of curriculum and testing. But they also are run by independent boards that are not part of local public school systems. Proponents of publicly funded religious charter schools were quick to point out that the decision was limited to Oklahoma. “Oklahoma parents and children are better off with more educational choices, not fewer. While the Supreme Court’s order is disappointing for educational freedom, the 4-4 decision does not set precedent, allowing the court to revisit this issue in the future,” said Jim Campbell, who argued the case at the high court on behalf of Oklahoma’s charter school board. Campbell is the chief legal counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal organization that appears often at the court in cases on high-profile social issues. On the other side, the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State applauded the outcome for preserving public education. “The very […]
Yedidya Diena Named 2025 Valedictorian of Touro’s Lander College for Men
Yedidya Diena, a Toronto native and finance major, has been named the 2025 valedictorian of Touro University’s Lander College for Men (LCM). His academic journey reflects a blend of intellectual curiosity, personal discipline, and a strong commitment to values and growth. From an early age, Yedidya considered himself a “business-minded individual.” “I ran a few small businesses growing up, which helped me realize early on that I wanted to pursue a career in the business world,” he said. But it was during his time at LCM that he discovered his professional direction. “I wasn’t immediately sure which path to take, accounting or finance. After speaking with professors and exploring my options, I narrowed it down to finance,” he said. “Finance stood out as both stimulating and dynamic, and I was excited by the challenges and opportunities it presented.” After graduating from Yeshiva Darchei Torah of Toronto for high school, Yedidya studied for two years at Yeshivat Sha’alvim before enrolling at LCM. He chose the college for its unique dual focus: rigorous academics alongside an environment that supported personal and ethical development. “I appreciated that I wasn’t just a number. The professors and mentors at LCM were accessible, supportive, and truly invested in helping students succeed,” he said. He credits Rabbi Yonason Sacks, Rosh Yeshiva of LCM, as playing a particularly meaningful role in his growth. “One of the most impactful parts of my experience was the opportunity to learn under Rabbi Sacks,” Yedidya said. “I also received personal guidance from several mentors who helped me navigate important decisions, both academically and beyond the classroom.” Yedidya also appreciated the industry experience his professors brought into the classroom. “Many of my professors came directly from the finance and business world. Their real-world insights and practical mentorship helped make the material come alive and gave me a clearer picture of where I wanted to go professionally.” Yedidya was recently offered an associate role in a wealth management training program at a leading Canadian bank. The Toronto-based program focuses on developing early-career professionals for future roles in advisory and client service. Currently, he is learning at the Cross River Kollel, located at the Cross River Bank campus, before entering the workforce full time. He describes the Kollel as “a unique opportunity to build analytical and critical thinking skills through intensive study and discussion,” and sees the experience as another important step in his personal and professional development. “I want to succeed in my career while staying grounded and purpose-driven,” he said. “My goal is to make a positive impact, both in the workplace and in the broader community.” Outside of academics, Yedidya enjoys playing ice hockey, learning guitar and cooking. Above all, he’s focused on building a meaningful life — one rooted in growth, purpose, and helping others succeed.

Iran Threatens To Take Undefined “Special Measures” To Defend Its Nuclear Sites Amid Israel Attack Prep
Iran’s top diplomat warned Thursday that his country would take “special measures” to defend its nuclear facilities if Israel continues to threaten them, raising the stakes further ahead of a new round of talks with the United States. The comments by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered no specifics on what Tehran would do, but international inspectors already have seen their access limited to Iran’s program. That’s even as Tehran enriches uranium to 60% purity, a short, technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90%. “I have called on the international community to take effective preventive measures against the continuation of Israeli threats, which if unchecked, will compel Iran to take special measures in defense of our nuclear facilities and materials,” Araghchi wrote on the social platform X after sending letters to United Nations officials. “The nature, content and extent of our actions will correspond and be proportionate to preventive measures taken by these international bodies in accordance with their statutory duties and obligations.” Iran’s mission to the United Nations later posted Araghchi’s letter online, which included a warning to the U.S. as well. “We are likewise of the firm conviction that — in the event of any attack against the nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Zionist regime — the government of the United States shall bear legal responsibility, having been complicit therein,” the letter reads. It added any change involving Iranian nuclear sites would be communicated to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog. Araghchi’s remarks follow a CNN report Tuesday that described the U.S. as having “new intelligence suggesting that Israel is making preparations to strike Iranian nuclear facilities.” Israel has not acknowledged any preparations, though officials up to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have repeatedly threatened to strike Iran’s nuclear sites to prevent it from being able to obtain a nuclear weapon, should it choose to pursue one. Israel and Iran have been archrivals in the Mideast for decades. Araghchi’s warning come as the U.S. and Iran are due to meet Friday in Rome for their fifth round of negotiations over a possible deal that would see Tehran limit or end its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. The U.S. will be again represented in the talks by Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff and Michael Anton, the State Department’s policy planning director. (AP)
